Welcome Home
Set across from Government Center at 38 Third Street, the Garment Workers Building carries one of downtown Fall River’s most meaningful labor stories. Built in 1930 as the Classical Revival List Building, it was purchased in 1951 by Local 178 of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union for its headquarters and health center, helping garment workers from across the region access medical care. Today, the restored building honors that legacy with exposed brick, soaring ceilings and sunlit windows, complemented by dark chestnut cabinetry, bronze finishes, granite countertops, stainless-steel appliances and in-home laundry—all within the National Register–listed Third Street Commercial Corridor.
